CRT Monitors

CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors are the more common kind. They have a large picture tube similar to the one in a TV set. But when you're shopping around for a computer, remember: Not all CRT monitors are created equal. Even those that have the same “specs” don't necessarily look the same.

Some manufacturers are now offering “flat screen CRTs,” which are thinner and easier on the eyes than the old curved monitors. They still take up a lot of desk space and use as much electricity as standard CRTs, but if you have trouble justifying the extra cost of an LCD monitor (and who can blame you?), then a flat screen CRT might be a good compromise.
