How Are Web Sites Created?

A Web page is created using a programming language called HTML (for “hypertext markup language”). This sounds complicated but it really isn't. HTML is basically ordinary text with some tags or commands that tell it how to display the text or graphics and how to link to other sites. It's not that hard to learn HTML, but these days you don't have to know anything about it to create a Web site. Numerous programs on the market let you create Web pages just as if you were using a word processing program. In fact, most modern word processing programs, including Microsoft Word and WordPerfect, can also be used to create and edit Web pages.
