Chapter 10. The CPU: The Computer's Brain

The central processing unit, or CPU, is the part of the computer that does the main computing work. It sits on the computer's system board (sometimes called the motherboard), along with other chips. It's not very big, but when you talk about the computer, that's what you're talking about. The rest of the machinery is just a way of getting data to and from that chip.
