Sorting Lines with sort

The sort command enables you to sort the lines in a file. Three of its most commonly used options are:

  • -d sorts in dictionary order, ignoring all characters except letters, numbers, and blanks.

  • -n sorts in numeric order, ignoring all other characters.

  • -r sorts in reverse order.
