Other Differences

There are a few other differences between the way Mac OS 9.x and Mac OS X work. Here's a quick rundown of the ones I think are most important.

Memory Management

Mac OS 9.x offered a number of features and tools you could use to manage system and application memory. For example, you could use the Memory control panel to set up virtual memory and resize the RAM cache. You could use the Info window to set an application's RAM allocation. You could use the About this Computer window to see how much RAM each application was using.
