Accessing the World with Internet Services

Starting with AppleScript 1.7 in Mac OS X 10.1, scripts have access to the growing world of Web-based services on the Internet. Two new functions, call soap and call xmlrpc, give AppleScript scripts the capability to access Perl scripts and database CGIs that provide XML-RPC or SOAP gateways.

XML-RPC is a protocol that uses XML to make remote procedure HTTP calls over the Internet. SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) is a protocol designed for exchanging information in a distributed environment, in which a server may consist of a hierarchy of objects with methods and properties.
