AppleScript & Mac OS X

Mac OS X is different from anything you may know about Mac OS 9, from the Aqua user interface to the System Preferences application. In the midst of this new terrain stands AppleScript 1.7. AppleScript works with Carbon and Cocoa applications developed just for Mac OS X, as well as with older Mac OS 9.x applications and those running in the Classic environment.

Yes, AppleScript is alive and thriving in Mac OS X, and Mac OS X 10.1 offers the functionality you need to get things done. Depending on your coding style, you shouldn't have to change most of your old scripts that control Mac OS 9.x applications for them to run in Mac OS X 10.1. However, none of the scriptable Mac OS 9.x components, such as control panels and extensions, exist in Mac OS X.
