Chapter 12. Structuring the Sheet > Moving and Copying Data

Moving and Copying Data

Excel’s drag-and-drop technique makes moving and copying data especially easy. You can also use the standard cut, copy, and paste techniques to place the data on the Clipboard, where it will be available for other paste operations.

To move or copy data:

1.
Select the range of cells to move or copy (Figure 12.13).

2.
Position the mouse pointer on the border of the range; the pointer becomes an arrow.

3.
Drag the border of the range to move the range to a new location.

A yellow ToolTip appears to indicate the destination.

or

To copy the cells, press and hold Ctrl while dragging the border of the range. A small plus sign appears next to the mouse pointer to indicate that you are copying rather than moving (Figure 12.14).

4.
Release the mouse button to drop the range at the new location (Figure 12.15).
