Creating a Character Style

You can use character styles to apply font formatting to selected text characters and words within a paragraph without affecting the overall formatting of the paragraph.

To create a character style:

1.
Select the first set of characters for which you want to define a new style.

Click the Styles And Formatting button on the Formatting toolbar.

In the Styles And Formatting Task Pane, click New Style (Figure 5.61).

In the New Style dialog box, type a style name to replace the current, selected style name.

Choose Character from the drop-down Style Type list (Figure 5.62).

Click the Format button and choose Font from the Format drop-down list.

The Font dialog box opens (Figure 5.63).

7.
On the Font tab in the Font dialog box, specify the formatting you want and then click OK.

8.
Click OK in the New Style dialog box to close the dialog box. The text you selected in step 1 is formatted according to the new style, and the new style name appears in the style list.
