Setting Tabs

You can use tabs to align text and numbers neatly in columns. Word 2000 offers standard tabs, plus a new type of tab, the bar tab, which places a vertical bar between columns. Bar tabs are ideal for dividing text buttons on Web page menu bars.

To set tabs:

1.
Select the paragraph or paragraphs to which you want to add tabs (Figure 5.36).

2.
Click the tab alignment button if you want to change the tab type (Figure 5.37). Table 5.3 shows the tab alignment settings.

3.
Click on the ruler to set a tab of the type shown on the tab alignment button (Figure 5.38).

4.
Click again at a different spot on the ruler to set another tab of the same type.

or

Click the tab alignment button to select a different tab type before clicking on the ruler to set the tab.
