Setting Up Headers and Footers

Headers are text that appears at the top of every page. Footers appear at the bottom of every page.

To set up a header and footer:

1.
From the View menu, choose Header and Footer (Figure 6.5).

Word switches to Print Layout view, positions the insertion point in the blank header space, and opens the Header and Footer toolbar (Figure 6.6).

To edit the footer instead of the header, click the Switch Between Header and Footer button on the Header and Footer toolbar.

Type text for the left side of the header or footer (Figure 6.7).

If you want text in the center of the header or footer, press Tab and type text.

5.
If you want text at the right side of the header or footer, press Tab again and type text (Figure 6.8).

Click the Close button on the Header and Footer toolbar to finish editing the header or footer and return to the previous view.
