AutoFilling a Range

When you want to fill a range of cells with consecutive numbers, numbers that follow a specific pattern, dates, or dates that follow a specific pattern (such as every Monday), use AutoFill as a quick and convenient method of automatically entering the sequence.

To AutoFill a range:

1.
In the first cell of the sequence, type the first number or date.

2.
In an adjacent cell, type the next number or date.

3.
Select the two cels and carefuly position the mouse pointer on the Fil handle, the very small square at the lower right corner of the border surrounding the two cells.

4.
Drag the Fill handle to extend the sequence (Figure 11.16).

5.
Release the mouse button when the sequence is complete (Figure 11.17).
