Building Formulas by Inserting Functions

Sum and Average are just two of the dozens of functions that are included in Excel. To find others, click More Functions in the AutoSum drop-down list on the Standard toolbar as you are building the formula. The Function Arguments dialog box helps you build the formula. Table 11.3 lists many useful functions.

To build a formula by inserting a function:

1.
Click the destination cel for the formula.

2.
Click More Functions in the AutoSum drop-down list on the Standard toolbar (Figure 11.41).

Choose Function from the Insert menu.

In the Insert Function dialog box, select the category and then the function (Figure 11.42).

Click OK.

5.
Use the Function Arguments dialog box to guide you in completing the formula (Figure 11.43).

Click OK when you have finished (Figure 11.44).
