Finding Text

You can locate a spot in a document or a passage to edit by searching for a word or phrase.

To find text:

1.
From the Edit menu, choose Find.

or

Press Ctrl+F.

In the Find and Replace dialog box, type text in the Find What text box (Figure 4.14).

Click Find Next. The text is found and highlighted on the screen.

To find the next occurrence, click Find Next again.

Tips

  • For more search options, click the More button in the Find and Replace dialog box (Figure 4.15). Table 4.2 lists these options.

  • To highlight all occurrences of the Find What item, click the Highlight All Items Found In checkbox before clicking Find Next.

Match Case Finds words that contain the same uppercase and lowercase characters
Find Whole Words Only Finds text when not part of a larger word—for example, finds “art” but not “artistic”
Use Wildcards Allows you to enter a code to specify a special character combination to find—for example, a “?” will match any single character
Sounds Like Finds text that sounds like the Find What text
Find All Word Forms Finds all variations of the chosen word—for example, “apple” and “apples,” “sit” and “sat”
