Chapter 26. Check for Damaged Disks and Files: Replace, Recover, Restore, or Repair

QUICK SUMMARY

If possible, replace damaged or erased files from backups. Otherwise, use a data recovery utility (such as Norton Utilities) to recover specific files on a damaged volume or to unerase files on an undamaged volume. In certain cases, you can use these utilities to restore an entire volume. If appropriate, attempt to fix damaged files, especially document files. Check for and repair bad blocks.
