Lesson 7. Understanding Print Service > Configuring Client Computers

Configuring Client Computers

When you create an LPR print queue, print service announces its presence via Bonjour. If your print queue is shared over AppleTalk, Name Binding Protocol (NBP) allows Mac OS 9 users to see the queue in the Chooser. Queues shared over SMB will show up in the Windows Network Neighborhood using the standard NetBIOS method. Since Samba is responsible for registering your printer, make sure you have configured the correct workgroup name and WINS server in the Windows pane of Server Admin.

IPP is a relatively new printing protocol and is supported on Mac OS X v10.2 and later, Windows ME/2000/XP, and UNIX (Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, IRIX, and AIX).
