Troubleshooting

For troubleshooting during installation, you can display the installer log. This is most useful when an installation does not complete correctly. In that case, rerun the installation with the log file showing, so that you can identify where the problem occurred. To display the log, choose Installer Log from the Window menu while the installation is running. Another way to see the log file is to use the Terminal application, located under the Utilities menu when started up from the Mac OS X Server Install disc.

If you use Server Assistant to create an automatic configuration file, as we did in this lesson, be sure to delete the file from the drives attached to the server after the server has been set up. Otherwise, if you need to repurpose the server after you reinstall the server software, the server will be automatically configured using the old configuration data.
