Xsan

Xsan

Xsan is Apple's storage area network (SAN) product offering. It is both a SAN file system and a cluster file system.

A SAN is a specialized network designed and optimized specifically for storage. In February 2003 Apple introduced the Xserve RAID, which supported Fibre Channel, the most popular storage-networking technology. With a Fibre Channel switch and Fibre Channel Host Bus Adaptor PCI cards, you were able to connect multiple computers and multiple Xserve RAIDs on a single Fibre Channel network.
