QuickTime Streaming Server

QuickTime Streaming Server

Mac OS X Server includes QuickTime Streaming Server (QTSS) version 5.0 in its suite of services.

QuickTime streaming is the delivery of QuickTime media, such as movies and live presentations, over a network in real time. A streaming server (a computer running QTSS) sends the media to a client computer, which plays the media as they are delivered. With streaming, no files are downloaded to the viewer's hard disk. You can stream media at various rates, from modem to broadband. With respect to protocols, QTSS uses the Real Time Protocol (RTP) and the Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) to communicate with a client. QTSS is a standard RTP/RTSP server. With QTSS software, you can deliver video on demand, playlists of prerecorded content, or broadcasts of live events in real time using QuickTime Broadcaster or other third-party broadcasting applications.
