11.4. Inserting a Function

There are basically two methods for adding a function to a worksheet. You can either manually type the function and the appropriate arguments in the cell or paste them into the cell using the Paste Function dialog.

If you are using a function you are familiar with, it is quicker to manually type the function in the cell. For example, as Figure 11-3 illustrates, if you type the SUM function in cell A3 it requires a comma between each argument you want to add. However, in order for Excel to recognize it as a function, it must be preceded by an equal sign.
