11.2. Function Categories

Detailed descriptions of each function category and the corresponding functions are covered in the remaining chapters in this book (Chapter 12 through Chapter 20). To make functions easier to locate on the Paste Function dialog, they are divided into the following categories:


Financial

Provides functions designed to perform various financial calculations such as determining the accrued interest on an investment, or determining the effective annual interest rate. For more information, refer to Chapter 12.


Date and Time

Includes functions for working with specific date and time values within a worksheet. These functions allow you to insert the date or time based on your system clock, determine which date is the specified number of days away, or return a portion of a date or time. For more information, refer to Chapter 13.


Math and Trig

Includes functions for performing mathematical and trigonometrical calculations. For example, there are functions for determining the sine, cosine, and tangent of an angle. For more information, refer to Chapter 14.


Statistical

Provides functions for performing statistical calculations such as finding the probability of a specified type of distribution. For more information, refer to Chapter 15.


Lookup and Reference

Provides functions for looking up and referencing specific values within your worksheet. For more information, refer to Chapter 16.


Database

Provides several functions for working with database tables. For more information, refer to Chapter 17.


Text

Includes several functions for manipulating and converting text values within a worksheet. For more information, refer to Chapter 18.


Logical

Provides functions that allow you to perform logical comparisons. For more information, refer to Chapter 19.


Information

Includes functions to return specific information about your worksheet and computer system. For more information, refer to Chapter 20.
