Preface > Acknowledgments

Acknowledgments

Probably one of the most difficult tasks for me on a book is writing the acknowledgments. Not necessarily because it is a hard task to perform, but I am always afraid I might overlook someone who was involved in the process of producing this book. Because as authors, we typically never see the other people involved in this enormous process, it is easy to miss everyone who deserves a thank you.

I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the O'Reilly team. This has really been an impressive group to work with. There are so many people whose efforts were necessary in getting this book to market. Troy Mott, the editor on the book, was fantastic. It has really been impressive to work with an editor who understands the product you are writing about. Troy has been great at finding those little things that I may have overlooked, and making sure they were covered. He did a great job making sure this book came together. Also, Tara McGoldrick did a great job making sure everything was submitted on time, working through all the edits, and figuring out when I changed a figure without notifying her. I would also like to thank Richard McClung and Tamera Frediani for taking time to review portions of the book. To everyone else involved with this book at O'Reilly, thank you for all your hard work.

I would like to acknowledge the efforts of my two technical reviewers. It is always difficult to find people willing to take the time to review a book and make sure the information is correct. Brian Jersky and Dennis Wallentin did a fantastic job of reviewing everything. I especially want to acknowledge Brian Jersky's efforts with the Statistical Functions chapter. He was able to pick up where I was lacking and help make that chapter very powerful.

Finally, I need to thank my own family, my husband, Richard, and two children, Alex and Ashley, for their patience and support during this project, especially during the last few weeks as we worked to pull everything together and get it to production.
