Insert Index and Tables Figure 7-23. Marked index entries · The final line shows a page range entry, which adds the \r switch and the name of the bookmark set off in quotes. Deleting an Index Entry Deleting a index entry is easy. No matter what type of entry it is, select the letters XE and delete them. Word deletes the brack- ets, quotes, and switches and reverts the word to normal. Create entries in a document automatically using a prepared list of words or phrases saved as a separate document. This can be used to create an index from scratch or to supplement an existing index. Though this sounds tempting, it can cause problems, since Word marks all occurrences of any word on the list in the document. Marking entries manually provides much finer control over the quality of the index.
