/n Start a new instance of Word with no document open. Documents opened in each instance of Word will not appear as choices in the Win- dow menu of other instances. /q Start Word and suppress the slash screen. This switch is new in OSR-1. /t template name Start Word with a new document based on a template other than nor mal.dot. /w Start a new instance of Word with a blank document. Documents opened in each instance of Word will not appear as choices in the Window menu of the other instances. Another way to use startup switches is to create a shortcut to the win word.exe executable in Windows (in any open folder, choose New Short- cut). Once the shortcut is created, right-click it and open its Properties dialog from the context menu. In the Target field, add the switch to the end of the executable path. Whenever you launch that shortcut, Word starts with the assigned switch.
