Chapter 4. Taming Access Data > Creating a Shadow Effect for Report Text

Creating a Shadow Effect for Report Text

Access comes with a palette of six special effects that enable you to display control borders in various interesting ways. The six choices are Flat, Raised, Sunken, Etched, Shadowed, and Chiseled. However, the Shadowed effect applies only to control borders. What if you want the same effect with the text in a label? You can do this by following these steps:

1.
Add the label to the report, edit the text, and set up the text formatting as needed.

2.
With the label selected, pull down the Formatting toolbar’s Line/Border Color palette and click Transparent.

3.
Select Edit, Duplicate to create a copy of the label.

4.
Move the copy of the label so that it is offset slightly from the original (slightly below and slightly to the right is the usual shadow position).

Nudging the Shadow’s Position

If you need to fine-tune the position of the copy, hold down the Ctrl key and press the arrow keys to nudge the label in the direction of the selected key.

5.
Use the Formatting toolbar’s Font/Fore Color palette to choose a relatively light color for the shadow label (such as light gray or white).
