Setting Document Security Options

Your first step toward a secure Office environment involves securing your documents. Office 2003 offers a number of security levels, which range from merely suggesting that users don’t edit a file to requiring strong passwords to open otherwise-encrypted documents. The next few sections take you through some of these document security options.

Preventing Changes by Opening a Document as Read-Only

One way to prevent unauthorized changes to a document is to open it as read-only. You can still make changes to the document, but you can’t save those changes (except to a different file).
