Setting Up Independent Contractors for 1099 Forms

The people whom you pay for services are either employees or independent contractors. Sometimes when you pay independent contractors, you are required to report their earnings to the government. These earnings are reported on form 1099-MISC. QuickBooks gives you the mechanism for tracking amounts paid to independent contractors so you can produce the necessary government forms.

Set Up an Independent Contractor for a 1099 Form

Select Vendor List from the Lists menu.

Double-click a vendor to whom you think you need to issue a 1099 form (or press Ctrl+N to set up a new vendor).

Click the Additional Info tab.

Check this box to indicate the vendor is eligible for a 1099 form.

Enter a tax ID number for the vendor.

Click OK.
