Setting Tabs

Tabs—you either love 'em or you never use 'em. Although they were once the only way to create columns, tabs have fallen out of favor now that we have the Table feature.

Still, tabs have their place, and in some cases, they are easier to set up than a table. For example, if you want to create three columns, one of which is a dollar amount, it's probably faster to turn on the ruler and set two regular tabs and one decimal-align tab than it is to create a table, format the dollar amount column to decimal alignment, and remove the table lines.
