Using Speech Recognition

There are two basic modes of speech recognition on the Tablet PC. First, there is Dictation mode, where you can enter text into most Windows XP–compatible programs just by speaking into the microphone. The second mode, called Voice Command, enables you to do many things with your voice that you normally do with your tablet pen, keyboard, or mouse, such as open documents, start new documents, and save or print files.

Use the Dictation Mode

You can begin using speech recognition after completing at least one of the voice training programs. If there is a program open into which you want to enter text, all you have to do is tap the Dictation button on the Tablet PC Input Panel and begin speaking. Each time you pause, the words you just spoke are converted into text and entered into the program just as if you had typed them with a keyboard or used the Input panel.
