Looking Ahead

This chapter has concerned itself mostly with structures and activities more appropriate for use with a database manager, such as Access or SQL Server, than for a data analysis application such as Excel. The reason is that if you are to manage data in a database from the Excel platform, it's useful to understand what effect your actions have in the database.

The next chapter returns to Excel, and the methods you use there to do what this chapter discussed in the context of Access: defining tables and fields, managing table joins, and creating and executing queries, all without ever using the database management system.
