Part: VI Appendixes > Formatting Your Spreadsheets

Appendix C. Formatting Your Spreadsheets

In this Appendix

  • Learn how to add, remove, and resize rows and columns.

  • Apply numeric formatting styles to values.

  • Add emphasis to draw attention to important cells.

  • Protect cells so that they can’t accidentally be edited or removed.

  • Assign a name to a cell or series of cells.

  • Use SpeedFormat to select a predefined format for the notebook.

Now that you’ve learned how to enter data in a spreadsheet and create formulas to calculate the data, you’re ready to get started on making changes to the structure. Adding and removing rows and columns is something that comes up right away. A close second is being able to combine cells into one large cell. Locking cells isn’t something a lone user worries about, but if you’re planning to share your spreadsheet, you would do well to learn how to lock the cells and protect them from accidental changes.
