Introduction

A project is an effort to create something or do something. Most projects are so large that you can't just tell people to “go do it.” They need to be broken down into smaller parts, not only so that people can better understand what they need to do, but also so that you as the manager of the project can more easily track how complete the project is based on the work of the resources. Tasks are those smaller parts into which projects are broken to make them more manageable. Tasks are where resources are assigned and where the work gets done. The whole point of Microsoft Project is to manage the schedule and status of the tasks within your projects. This chapter looks at tasks in Project and how to work with them.
