Setting Macro Security

When you open a document, you might be prompted with a security alert. Documents can include additional programming codes called macros, which can contain viruses. You can protect your computer from viruses by running up-to-date antivirus software and setting your macro security level to high for maximum protection or medium for lesser protection. If macro security is set to medium, document users will be prompted to enable macros.

Set Macro Security Options

Click the Tools menu, and then click Options.

Click the Security tab.

Click Macro Security.

Click the security option you want.

  • High. Disables all macros except those digitally signed by a trusted source.

  • Medium. Allows you to choose whether or not to run macros.

  • Low. Allows all macros to run in the document.

Click OK.

Click OK.
