Chapter 3. Formatting Documents > Applying Borders and Shading

Applying Borders and Shading

To enhance the appearance of the text in a table, you can format it using the buttons on the Formatting toolbar, just as you would when formatting any text in a Word document. You can also format the structure of the table by adding borders and shading. Borders and Shading can help the table in your document come alive for your readers. You can quickly add a border using the one of the built-in layouts and adding your line style, color, and width preferences.

Apply a Border

Select the table you want to format.

Click the Format menu, and then click Borders And Shading.

Click the Borders tab.

Click to select the type of Setting you want for your border.

Click to select the type of Style.

Apply any other options you want.

Look in the preview box to see the new border.

Click OK.

Apply Shading

Select the table you want to format.

Click the Format menu, and then click Borders And Shading.

Click the Shading tab.

Click to select the shading color you want to apply to your table.

Apply any other options you want.

Look in the preview box to see the new shading color.

Click OK.
