Setting Up Layout Guides

Each page of a publication—like any business letter—should have uniform margins. This gives your publication a consistent, professional look. Since a publication is composed of many elements (which may have their own margins), each page is controlled using layout guides. Since they are automatically included in each page of a publication, layout guides are located on background pages. In publications with mirrored pages, any adjustment made to one page is automatically reflected on its companion page.

Set Up Layout Guides

Click the Arrange menu, and then click Layout Guides.

Click the Margin Guides tab.

Specify the measurement for each of the margin guides you want to adjust.

  • The Left margin guide is the white space at the left of a non-mirrored page.

  • The Right margin guide is the white space at the right of a non-mirrored page.

  • The Top margin guide is the white space at the top of the page.

  • The Bottom margin guide is the white space at the bottom of the page.

Click the Grid Guides tab, and then select the value for the column and row guides you want to adjust.

Click the Baseline Guides tab, and then select the value for the horizontal guides you want to adjust.

Click OK.
