Chapter 7. Working with Pages > Inserting Headers and Footers

Inserting Headers and Footers

A header is the area between the top of the page and the top margin; a footer is the area between the bottom margin and the bottom of the page. When you add page numbers to the top or bottom of the page, you do so in a header or footer. This section explains how to create a header/footer that can contain the page number and any other type of information that you want to include. You might want to include the title or author of the document and the date it was modified, for example.

Creating Headers and Footers

In Word, you can create a simple header/footer that appears on every page, or you can get fancy and create a header/footer for odd pages and another header/footer for even pages. I’ll start with the steps to create a simple header or footer and then progress to the more advanced options.
