Chapter 14. Using Templates and Wizards ... > Customizing the Default Template

Customizing the Default Template

Every document that you create from a blank document is based on the default template. Word’s default template is used when you create a document from scratch. If you want 1.25-inch margins, specific tab settings, and Century Schoolbook 12 point, you can make these changes to the default template so that they are in place for all new documents.

A word of caution: Make sure that you add only the elements that should be applied to all new documents. Otherwise, you defeat the time-saving purpose of using templates by forcing yourself to remove the unnecessary elements from all new documents.
