Diagnostic Logging

If you are having problems logging in to your e-mail servers, with e-mail server connections, or with sending or receiving e-mails, a support technician may ask you to turn on e-mail diagnostic logging. To enable e-mail diagnostic logging, select Tools, Options, select the Other tab, and then select Advanced Options. Check the Enable mail logging (troubleshooting) checkbox. E-mail logging will start after you close and reopen Outlook.

The log is saved as a text file which contains the dialogs that occurred between Outlook and your e-mail servers. These dialogs may aid the support technician assisting you in diagnosing or understanding the problem. Make sure to turn off logging as soon as it's not needed any longer because the size of these log files can grow very quickly.
