Part: V Advanced Outlook Topics > Organizing E-mail with Rules

Chapter 19. Organizing E-mail with Rules

In this chapter

  • Understanding how rules work.

  • Learning how to create rules.

  • Knowing how to run rules.

In Outlook rules are used to perform actions either when new messages arrive in your Inbox or when you send a message. Rules can also be run manually at any time you want. Actions that rules can take include moving, deleting, and flagging items; playing a sound when certain items arrive in your Inbox; and sending alerts to mobile devices. Rules are used to help automatically organize the way items are filed and to take specific actions when e-mails of interest are sent or received.
