Chapter 4. Advanced E-mail Techniques > Additional E-mail Options

Additional E-mail Options

In addition to all the e-mail settings you have learned about so far in this chapter, others are available in the InfoBar that is displayed in the Reading Pane, in open items, and in the Message Options dialog. In this section, you will learn about these settings.

Blocked Content

Many e-mails contain links to pictures or other content located on the Internet. When the link is activated, the content is downloaded and displayed in the e-mail. This technique is also used for other less benign purposes, however, such as Web beacons, which are tiny, invisible links that let a spammer know that your e-mail address is a valid one. Other techniques load content that takes you to a Web page that you might or might not want to visit. Microsoft has added content blocking to Outlook 2003 and displays information about blocked content in the InfoBar that is displayed at the top of an e-mail viewed in the Reading Pane or in an open e-mail item.
