Chapter 4. Advanced E-mail Techniques > E-mailing Links to the Web

E-mailing Links to the Web

One common type of blocked attachment is a URL attachment to a Web page. An attachment of this type is created by selecting File, Send, Link by E-mail in Internet Explorer. Unless the URL file extension has been moved to Level 2, the attachment will be blocked completely, and even if the URL file extension has been moved to Level 2, you must save the URL attachment to the file system before you can open it.

Instead of sending a link using Link by E-mail in Internet Explorer, open a new e-mail message in Outlook and copy and paste the Web address you want to send directly in the text of the e-mail message. That link will not be restricted by Outlook, and if the user clicks it in an e-mail, his or her Web browser will open to that URL. Highlight the address of the Web page in the address field in Internet Explorer and right-click on the link. Select Copy Shortcut. Move the focus to an e-mail message, right-click, and select Paste to paste the link into the e-mail message.
