Chapter 26. PowerPoint Settings to Change > Setting the AutoRecover Interval

Setting the AutoRecover Interval

Like other Microsoft Office applications, PowerPoint uses the AutoRecover feature to automatically save your work at a specified interval; the default is 10 minutes. If your system crashes, when you open PowerPoint again, your presentation is recovered automatically from the last AutoRecover save. You might want to change the AutoRecover interval if you are worried about losing a significant amount of work in a 10-minute period. AutoRecover causes your system to slow somewhat every time the interval is reached and an automatic save is performed, but it does not cause any other significant overhead.

To change the AutoRecover interval, first open the Options dialog box by selecting Tools, Options, and then click the Save tab. Then set Save AutoRecover Info Every X Minutes to the desired value by using the arrow buttons. You can also disable AutoRecover by deselecting the Save AutoRecover Info Every X Minutes check box, but it is not advisable. Then click OK to save your settings.
