Chapter 2. Office Basics > Saving Office Settings

Saving Office Settings

At first you probably won’t spend a lot of time changing settings in Office applications, but over time you’ll certainly customize them to suit your needs and preferences. If your computer crashes and you need to reinstall your operating system and applications, you’ll lose your customized settings. And if you move to a new computer, you’ll probably want your existing Office application settings to move to the new computer, as well.

There are some ways to manually move Office application settings between computers or save and restore them, but I prefer to take the easy route. The Save Your Settings Wizard that is included with the Office Resource Kit takes a snapshot of the settings on a computer and saves them to a file. You can then run the wizard again to import the settings after you restore the computer following a crash, or you can run the wizard to import the settings to a new computer.
