Chapter 2. Office Basics > Installing Office

Installing Office

Before you can start using Office applications, you need to install Office. Microsoft has made some pretty decent strides in the last several years toward simplifying application installation by standardizing on a setup utility called the Microsoft Installer. That’s what Office uses to install its applications. You shouldn’t have much trouble installing Office, so I don’t cover Setup in detail. Instead, I give you a good overview of the process, and I give you some tips on ways you can fine-tune Setup in certain situations.

Simple Installations

If your computer’s CD-ROM drive has AutoPlay enabled, all you need to do to start Office Setup is pop in the CD, and Setup should start automatically. If it does not start by itself, you need to open My Computer, open the CD-ROM drive, and double-click Setup.exe.
