Chapter 10. Adding Pizzazz with Word > Templates and Styles

Templates and Styles

Setting up formatting can take a lot of time, particularly if you need to use lots of different formatting across paragraphs or sections. Word provides two features that help you quickly and easily apply formatting for characters, paragraphs, and an entire document: styles and templates.

Using Styles

A style is a set of formatting properties that you can apply to text, tables, and lists in a Word document. You can think of a style as a collection of formatting commands that you apply as a whole. Applying formatting with styles simplifies complex formatting. Word includes several predefined styles, and you can create as many of your own as needed.
