Basic Paragraph Formatting

Most documents need at least some paragraph formatting. For example, in a letter you might want to set the distance between paragraphs so you don’t have to insert a blank line between paragraphs. Or you might want to justify a paragraph against the right margin instead of the left or use double-spacing instead of single-spacing. Whatever the case, Word gives you lots of options for formatting paragraphs.

You can format a paragraph either before you add text to it or after the fact. Just select the paragraph and choose Format, Paragraph to open the Paragraph dialog box (see Figure 10.6).
