Part 6. Formatting Characters and Paragr... > Adding Highlighting and Color to You...

Adding Highlighting and Color to Your Text

To select the highlight color, click the down arrow to the right of the Highlight button on the Formatting toolbar and click the color that you want to use in the palette that appears.

The mouse pointer takes on the shape of a highlighter pen. Drag across the text you want to highlight, and then release the mouse button.

The text is now highlighted with the color you chose.

INTRODUCTION

Word offers a highlight feature you can use just as you would a highlighter pen. This tool comes in handy when you're editing text onscreen—it lets you call attention to blocks of text that you want to comment on, that need further revision, and so on. Word also lets you change the color of characters themselves (as opposed to the background behind the characters) by applying a font color. Although highlighting is useful regardless of whether you have a color printer (if you don't have a color printer, the highlighting will print in a shade of gray), you're not as likely to use font colors unless you can print in color.

TIP

Highlighting Text

Here is another method for highlighting text: Select the desired text, and then click the Highlight button. If the color you want is not showing on the button, click the down arrow and click the desired color in the palette.

To change your font color, start by selecting the text.

Click the down arrow to the right of the Font Color button on the Formatting toolbar and click the desired color in the palette that appears.

Click anywhere in the document to deselect your text and see the font color that you applied.
