Part 6. Formatting Characters and Paragr... > Setting a Custom Center or Decimal T...

Setting a Custom Center or Decimal Tab

To insert a center tab, display the center-tab symbol on the Tab Stop Indicator button, and click in the paragraph where you want to use the tab.

Click at the desired location on the ruler to insert the tab.

Insert any additional tabs in the paragraph. In this example, a second center tab was added to the right.

Type your text using the custom tabs (see steps 7 and 8 in the preceding task).

INTRODUCTION

Center tabs let you center text over the tab stop, and decimal tabs align text along the decimal point. (Decimal tabs are most useful for typing columns of numbers.) Setting custom center and decimal tabs is exactly the same as setting left and right tabs. If you haven't done so, look over the preceding task to get an overview of working with custom tabs before continuing with these steps.

TIP

Clicking the Show/Hide Button

Click the Show/Hide button on the Formatting toolbar to be able to see where tabs have been inserted in your document.

To insert a decimal tab, display the decimal-tab symbol on the Tab Stop Indicator button, and click in the paragraph where you want to use the tab.

Click at the desired location on the ruler to insert the tab.

Insert any additional tabs in the paragraph. In this example, a left tab was added to the left of the decimal tab.

Again, type your text using the custom tabs as described in steps 7 and 8 in the preceding task.
