Working with the Word Window

When the window is maximized, the Maximize button is replaced by a Restore button. Click it to restore the window to its previous size.

Click the Minimize button to temporarily hide the window.

INTRODUCTION

You can change the appearance of the Word window in a variety of ways. For example, you can make it fill up the screen to give you more room to work, or make it disappear temporarily so that you can see what's behind it on the Windows desktop. You can also move the Word window around on your desktop, or adjust its size in other ways.

TIP

Closing a Window

The Minimize, Restore/Maximize, and Close buttons that you use in this task control the entire Word window. The Close button directly beneath them closes the document only, leaving the Word window open.

Click the window's taskbar button to bring the window back.

To move the window, point to its title bar, press and hold down the left mouse button, drag the window to a different location onscreen, and release the mouse button.

To resize the Word window, first point to a corner of the window. The mouse pointer becomes a diagonal black arrow. Drag in the desired direction to enlarge or shrink the window.
