Part 14. Getting Started with Outlook > Creating and Sending an Email Message

Creating and Sending an Email Message

Click the down arrow next to the New button on Outlook's Standard toolbar and select Mail Message from the menu that appears.

An untitled message window appears. Click the To button to open the Select Names dialog box. (Or, type the recipient's email address in the To field and go to step 6.)

The Select Names dialog box opens. In the Name list, click the name of the person to receive your message. To select multiple names, Ctrl+click each name.

Click the To button to place the selected name in the message window's To field.

INTRODUCTION

Creating and sending email messages will likely be the task you perform most often in Outlook. Fortunately, creating a new message is easy. You can attach files to your messages (covered later in this part), specify the level of a message's importance, and choose different recipients from your Outlook Contacts list.

TIP

Using Cc and Bcc

In addition to containing a To field, message windows also contain Cc (carbon copy) and Bcc fields. Enter a recipient in the Bcc field if you want her to receive the message without the primary recipient's knowledge.

TIP

Changing the Message

You can change the text in the To, Cc, Bcc, Subject, and Message fields at any time before you send your message. Simply click in the desired text area and type the correct information.

The selected recipients are added to the To field in the Select Names dialog box; click OK to add the names to the To field in the message window.

Click in the Subject area and type a brief but descriptive subject for your message.

Click in the body of the message window and type your message.

Click the Send button to send your message.
